Seminar will take place on Sunday, February 27th, between
3 and 6:30 PM, at IITs Hermann Hall. We are fortunate
to have two very distinguished speakers who will share
with us their valuable insights on career development
in the now multi-cultural corporate America. The information
below is to introduce to you the program at the seminar,
and to provide some detailed information of the two

1.
How to Succeed in the Conflicts between Chinese Culture
and American Culture
Speaker: Mr. Jin Guo, Lucent Technology
Language: Chinese

A. Why this topic:
1) Pressure of living an American life for those who
grew up in China;
2) Pressure of decision-making of whether to come to
US;
3) Pressure of decision-making of whether to go back
to China.
B. Perceive the cultural differences in a structural
way:
1) What's your identification of a Chinese or an American;
2) A set of fundamental differences.
C.
A strategy to deal with the cultural differences:
1) Be clear about your cons and pros of living in US;
2) Adjust your value system;
3) If you have to be a combination, be a good one.

Be a person is more important than being a Chinese or

Information
about the speaker:
Mr. Jin Guo got his BS in computer science from Shandong
Univ. in 1982, his MS in psychology from Zhejiang Univ.
(former Hangzhou Univ.) in 1988 and his MS in computer
science from Univ. of Montana in 1993. Mr. Guo joined
Lucent in 1996. Last year he worked for China Bell Labs,
doing recruiting, training and coordination. Now he
is a developer in INU organization. He has made speeches
on "The Differences of Chinese Culture and American
Culture" in many places, such as AA meetings at
Lucent, China Bell Labs in Beijing, Culture Village
in Chicago, and universities and companies in China.
